電気自動車用充電器設置 EVSE Installation

3月1日、電気技師さんに電気自動車用の充電器をガレージに設置していただきました。時間通りに来ていただき、1時間ちょっとで綺麗に設置していかれました。私の質問にも的確かつ簡潔に答えていただきました。まさに技術屋さんといった感じの人なりと仕事ぶりで、なんだか清々しかったです。

On March 1, an electrician installed a charger for electric vehicles in our garage. He was on time and the installation was beautifully completed in a little over an hour. He answered my questions accurately and concisely. He
had the personality and workmanship of a true technician, which was very refreshing.

昨年5月に購入した日産リーフ。特別に充電器を設置しなくても充電できるのですが、訳あって壁掛充電器をガレージに設置することにしました。

I purchased a Nissan LEAF last May. It can be charged without a special charger, but for some reason I decided to install a wall-mounted charger in my garage.

理由1：安全性：今までは車に付属していたケーブルを家庭用コンセントに挿入して充電していました。待機電力を消費するのが嫌なので、毎回充電前にケーブルをコンセントに差し込み、充電後にケーブルをコンセントから抜いていました。そのうちコンセントが黄色くなり始め、やがて茶色っぽくなって、やばいなぁと思っていたら、ある日突然ショートしてしまいました😭。使えなくなったコンセントは取り替えてもらう羽目に。。。知らなかったのですが、コンセントは差し抜きを繰り返すと劣化するんですね。それとも、大容量の電気を普通のコンセントから引っ張っていたのも、コンセント劣化の一因なのでしょうか😭？

Reason #1: Safety: Until now, I used to charge my car by inserting the cable, which came with the car, into a household outlet. I didn’t want to consume standby electricity, so I was plugging the cable into the outlet before each charge and unplugging the cable from the outlet after each charge. Eventually, the outlet started turning yellow and then brownish. While I was thinking that something was wrong, one day it suddenly shorted out😭 The outlet affected had to be replaced… I didn’t know that electrical outlets deteriorate when they are repeatedly plugged in and unplugged. Or is pulling large amounts of electricity from a regular outlet to charge an EV also a factor in outlet deterioration😭?

理由2：利便性：充電が速いです。家庭用コンセントだと24時間くらいかかるところ、私が購入した充電器では6時間で空っぽから満タンまで充電できます。普段の通勤では、夏は約33％、真冬は約50％使います。仕事帰りに寄り道をしたり、週末に遠出するとちょっとやばいです。一度、遠出した後に50％くらいしか充電されてない状態で仕事に行き、帰宅時には5％切ってたことがありました😓 充電不足で欠勤はしたくないなぁ😅

Reason #2: Convenience: It charges fast. The charger I purchased can charge from empty to full in 6 hours, whereas a household outlet would take about 24 hours. During my daily commute, I use about 33% of the battery in the summer and 50% in the middle of winter. If I take a detour after work or have an excursion on a weekend, I will be in trouble. It happened once, but after a long trip, I went to work with only about 50% of the battery charged, and when I got home, it was less than 5%😓. I don’t want to miss work due to lack of charge yet😅.
