You may wonder why the image doesn’t match with the title. Or, you simply wonder what darning is. The image above is the reason I repair stuff rather than buy a new one.

もしかすると、写真がタイトルと合ってない、と思っていませんか？そもそもダーニングって何かしら？実は、私が新しい物を買わずに修理をする理由が上のイメージにあるんです。

Stuff is made out of some ingredients and the ingredients don’t magically appear from nowhere. Everything is made out of resources on the earth. Those resources have to be mined using energy and the process emits CO2 and creates pollution. Products are also made with energy, which emits CO2 and creates pollution. The image above shows that 55% of CO2 emission comes from producing the stuff we buy. If we skip buying new stuff, this 55% of CO2 is reduced❗️The opposite is true. I can say that making new stuff is accelerating climate change and pollution.

物は何かしらの材料から作られますが、材料はちちんぷいぷい(古すぎ。。。)で現れるわけではありません。全ての物が地球の資源から作られています。資源はエネルギーを使って掘り起こされ、その過程で二酸化炭素を排出し環境を汚染します。また、物品はエネルギーを使って生産され、二酸化炭素を排出し環境を汚染します。上のイメージは55%の二酸化炭素が物品の生産によって排出されることを示しています。もし新品を買わなければ、この55%の二酸化炭素が削減されるわけです❗️逆に、新しい物を作るということは気候変動を引き起こし、環境汚染を促進すると言えるでしょう。

It looks easier and cheaper to buy new things, but on what cost? Cheaper to buy new things because the environmental cost is not included in the price of stuff. You are enjoying the cheaper price based on the sanction on people who are suffering from illegal mining or pollution from factories in frontline communities!

新しく買う方が簡単だし安く済むけど、何を犠牲にしてる？新しい物を買う方が安いのは、環境破壊が物の値段に含まれてないから。違法な発掘や工場からの汚染で苦しむ人々を犠牲にして、安い値段で物を買っているんですよ！

That says, there are people who suffer by your buying new stuff.

つまり、新品を買うことで苦しむ人たちがいる。

Your joy of buying new stuff doesn’t last longer than people suffering.

新品を買って嬉しいのはつかの間。犠牲になった人々の苦しみを考えれば一瞬でしょう。

Think again when you buy stuff next time. There are plenty of used stuff on the market. First of all, do you need it?

次に物を買う時はよく考えて下さい。世の中にセカンドハンドは溢れていますし、そもそも必要ですか？
