Well, today’s item is Tofu package. Tofu is a staple in Asian cooking. I once made Tofu from scratch to reduce plastic waste, but oh boy, it was hard☹️ It is a long process with lots of soy beans yet mediocre quality. Tofu making needs great skills🤔 Back in the days in Japan (not that long ago, when I was in elementary school), Tofu trucks 🛻 drove through neighborhoods to sell Tofus. Everybody was waiting with a stainless steel bowl with water to receive Tofus😌 They only sold Tofus, not packaging at that time.
さて、今日は豆腐容器です。豆腐はアジア料理には欠かせませんよね。私はプラスチックゴミを減らそうと思って豆腐を一から作ったことがありますが、なんと大変だったことか☹️ 時間はかかるし、豆もいっぱい使った割には、イマイチな出来具合い。豆腐作りって技術が要るんですね🤔 日本では昔(といってもそんなに昔ではなくって、私が小学生だった頃)、豆腐屋さんがトラック🛻で豆腐を売りにあちこち回ってました。みんな豆腐を受け取るためにボウルに水張って待ってました😌 当時は豆腐だけ売っていて、容器は売ってなかったんですね。
This item is a new addition to curbside recycling in Portland. Square tubs were not curbside recyclable until November, but they were finally added in😊 It still has to be a “tub” and bigger than 2×2 inches, though. I still don’t know why round tubs were recyclable but not squares. (Probably the end market didn’t accept them in the past. It is not about logic, it is about logistics😜)
豆腐容器などはポートランドのカーブサイド(家にゴミやリサイクルを取りに来てもらう自治体のサービス)のリサイクルに新しく追加されました。四角い容器は11月までダメだったんですが、とうとう追加されましたね😊 それでも、「tub」という形で2×2インチより大きくないといけませんが。未だに何で丸い容器はよくって四角はダメだったのか理由が分かりませんが(おそらく、引き取り業者が受け付けてなかったんでしょう。理論(ロジック)ではなくて、ロジスティックの問題😜)。

How to prepare Tofu packaging for recycling
- Remove film as much as possible
- Toss the film in garbage
- Put the Tofu package in recycling cart❤️

- 上のフィルムをなるたけ剥がす
- フィルムをゴミに捨てる
- 豆腐容器をリサイクルのカートに入れる❤️
