すっごい久しぶりにちゃんとした雨が降りました。6月18-19日の 0.45インチ（11.4ミリ）以来。NOAA（National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration、アメリカの気象庁）のNational Weather Serviceによると、7月の降水量は0.02インチ（0.5ミリ）（2000年からの平均0.23インチ（5.8ミリ））、6月は0.56インチ（14.2ミリ）（平均1.21インチ（30.7ミリ））、5月が0.89インチ（22.6ミリ）（平均1.80インチ（45.7ミリ））。わかりにくいから表にしようっと。

It’s been a long time since we had real rain. The last rain was 0.45 inch (11.4 mm) on June 18-19. According to NOAA’s (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) National Weather Service, precipitation in July was 0.02 inches (an average of 0.23 inches since 2000), 0.56 inches in June (average 1.21 inches), 0.89 inches in May (average 1.80 inches). It’s hard to understand, so let’s make a table.

つまり、降水量は平年の半分以下。道理でいつもより水やりしないといけないわけだー。ちなみに、regionalH2O.orgで郵便番号を入力して登録すると、その週にどれだけ水をあげないといけないかメールで送ってくれます。この近辺の平均値は週に1インチ（24.4 mm）なんだけど、今年は平均して1.5インチくらいかな？1.8インチの週もあってびっくりしました。

In other words, the amount of precipitation is less than half of the normal year. No wonder I have to water more than usual! By the way, if you enter your zip code and register at regionalH2O.org, they will email you how much you need to water for the week. The average around here is 1 inch per week, but it’s about 1.5 inches on average this year I think? I was surprised to see 1.8 inches one week.

今日降った雨も絶対1インチもないから（0.1インチもないかも。。。）、水やりもやっぱりしないといけない。庭のほとんどの部分がタイマーセットしたスプリンクラーで長期休暇でも大丈夫なんだけど、ヒューゲル床の一つはスプリンクラーが届かないので、やっぱり手で水やりしないといけない。水の入ったワインボトルを逆さに挿しておくことも考えたんだけど、最近あまり飲んでなかったのでボトルがない。。。というわけで、魚の餌やりを頼んだ隣人に、水やりもやっていただくことにしました。持つべきものは信頼の置ける隣人。有り難や〜。これで安心して旅行に行けます✈️

It definitely didn’t rain 1 inch today (maybe less than 0.1 inch…), so I still have to water. Most part of my yard gets water by the timer-set sprinklers and should be fine for long vacations. But one of the hugel beds is out of reach of the sprinklers, so I still have to water it by hand. I thought about putting upside down wine bottles with water in it, but I haven’t been drinking much lately, so I have no wine bottles. . . So, I decided to ask my neighbor, who I asked to feed our fish, to also water it. What you should have is a reliable neighbor. Thank you ~. Peace of mind with this and I can go on a trip✈️
