〜生ゴミは資源です。Kitchen waste is resource.〜 ＜リスト＞ <List> ボカシコンポストやってます。って何？ですよね。私も去年始めたばかり。以前は、生ゴミ（全部ではありません。野菜や果物の食べない部分、魚の骨皮、卵の殻、コーヒーやお茶の出がらしのみ）を庭の落ち葉や野菜・植物の枯れたものなどと混ぜてEarth Machine™️というコンポスター（写真右）の中で堆肥を作ってました。去年、真面目にガーデニングやろうと思っていろいろ本を読んでいたところ、「ボカシ」というものに出会いました。もともと日本語ですが、英語でもそのまま「Bokashi」です。ボカシとは、日本では米ぬか、アメリカでは麦ぬかに有用微生物（effective microorganisms）と糖分を加えて発酵させたものです。これ自体、質のいい肥料ですが、生ゴミに混ぜて発酵させることで、素晴らしい堆肥ができます。え、、、これって、生ゴミのぬか漬け（食べられません）？？？この生ゴミが発酵したものを「ボカシコンポスト」または「ボカシ肥」と言います。強力な堆肥です。 I’m doing Bokashi composting. 〜共存できる道を探すしかないのか？Do I have to seek the way to co-exist?〜 ＜リスト＞ <List> ここ数年、モグラがうちの庭を荒らしまくってます。14年前に新築で家を買った時のうちの庭は、ブルドーザーで固めた砂利混じりの粘土質の土の上に、ほんの少し庭用の土がのせられ、その上に芝生と数本の庭木が植えられていました。多分ミミズもモグラも住めないような土だったと思います。そこに、土を掘って堆肥や腐葉土を混ぜて、桜や椿、色々な果物の苗を植えました。芝生も、メッシュのスクリーンで石ころや木の枝などの大きめのものを取り除いた堆肥を、毎年のように施していました。その甲斐あって、土中のミミズの数も順調に増え、10年たったころに、モグラがどこからともなくやって来ました。そうです、モグラさん、ミミズが大好物らしいです。土が改善されたことは大いによろしきことなのですが、モグラの被害はやっぱり困る。芝生のデコボコは、毎回足で踏み潰さないと芝刈りもできないし、野菜の近くを掘られるとやっぱり育ちにくい。 Over the last several years, moles have been ravaging our garden. 急遽、雨水タンク設置 Urgent setup of rain barrels
4月に入ってからの19日間で雨が降らなかったのは、たったの2日。出かければ雨が降るから、私は雨女じゃなかろうかと疑い始めてました😅 でも、来週からは打って変わって晴天続きの予報。もう氷点下にもならなさそうだし、雨が降っているうちに雨水を貯めたいので、雨水タンクを裏庭に出しました（氷点下になると、貯まった水が凍ってタンクが膨張し割れる危険性がある）。 In the 19 days since the beginning of April, there were only two days without rain. リサイクルイベント行って来ました Report about Recycle Event “PlanetCon”
タイトルにリサクルイベントと書きましたが、正しくはリサイクル、リユーズ、サステイナビリティのイベントです。全て無料！！！私が住んでいるオレゴン州ワシントン郡、リサイクルの大御所Metro、そして4つのキャンパスに3800本の木が植えられており、Tree Campus Higher Educationの指定を受けたポートランドコミュニティカレッジが協賛しています。こういったイベントは、一つ一つ違う場所に持って行く手間が省けるので助かります。 I wrote “recycling event” in the title, but it’s actually an event for recycling, reuse, and sustainability. All free! ! ! 超簡単ハチドリのえさ Super-Easy Hummingbird Nectar
〜苦労せずにハチドリが毎日見れます。With no effort, you can see hummingbirds every day.〜 ちょー簡単にハチドリのえさが作れます。 しっかり混ぜて、ハチドリ用のえさ入れに入れるだけ。あとはハチドリが来るのを待つのみ😉 It is super-easy to make Hummingbird nectar. Mix well and fill the feeder. Then, wait for hummingbirds to come😉 うちのハチドリ用のえさ入れも、15年くらい経ちます。プラスチックなのに長い間頑張ってくれて感謝です。いつも、新しくえさを入れるとその日のうちに飲みに来てくれます。市販のえさ入れはほとんどが赤色。というのも、ハチドリは赤が大好きだから。他の色が珍しくていいなぁと思っても、ぜひ赤色のえさ入れを買ってください。ハチドリが見れること、ほぼ100パーセント保証します。虫も食べるそうですが、やっぱり大好物は砂糖水。窓の外にえさ入れを出しておくと、一日に何回も砂糖水を飲みにきたハチドリを見ることができます。特に夕方は、寝る前にいっぱい栄養補給するのか、昼間よりも長くえさ入れのところにいます。上の写真も、夕方に長居している時に撮りました。 My hummingbird feeder is about 15 years old. 〜うちの桜、咲き始めました。My Cherry Blossom started to bloom.〜 ＜リスト＞ <List> アジサイを剪定したらスッキリ。今年は、死んでる枝を取り除いて、芽が出始めたところまで切るだけの軽い剪定。剪定された細い枝は3cmくらいに切って、アジサイの根元に返してあげました。 After pruning the hydrangea, it looks neat. This year, only the light pruning is done by removing dead branches and cutting to the point where buds begin to emerge.
